Last year I was fortunate to spend 10 days at Vail. What an incredible ski resort, there is so much terrain to cover! And the variety is vast from glades, to aspens, to long steep runs, to bumps this mountain has everything to keep you satisfied and coming back again and again. On our second day at Snowmass we were lucky to get some fresh snow. Not a huge dump but it covered the hard packed snow. So the idea was to get to it. We took the Elk Camp gondola, to the Elk Camp lift, and then hiked up about 5-10 minutes to the new Burnt Mountain Glades. This was the scene at the top of Elk Camp peak. And over yonder... Oh! Here we are ... Ski Colorado!
Here's the spotlight on the first day of skiing in 2014, more specifically the hike up to Highland Peak, at Aspen Highlands Mountain. You see, I like to push things to the limit. And so, on the first day of skiing why not go up as far as the lift will take you and then climb up an additional 717 vertical feet, and see where you stand? Yeah, let's do ... Ski Colorado!
I've skied at Snowmass Ski Resort before, however that was 30 years ago - my how time flies! I was very excited to get on the slopes once again and refresh my memories of a fabulous mountain. Day 1 at Snowmass was rather overcast and snowy, so photos were not a huge focus. We spent most of the day zipping up and down the Sheer Bliss and Big Burn chairs. So here we start ... Ski Colorado!
What an amazing first day of skiing! We decided to start things off with a run at Aspen Highlands mountain. The Highland Bowl looked fun. First though some easier runs to start off the day, my first in 5 years now. Cruised some nice long blues around the Cloud Nine lift. At the top of the lift there is this fantastic spot in the picture below, to take in the view of ... Ski Colorado!
