Snowmass ski resort is a great mountain for a family vacation and is located in the Aspen, Colorado ski area which also includes Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk. The public bus service is amazing so you will find it really easy to get around from one ski hill to the other. If you want to try them all during your stay you totally can do so quite effortlessly. Vail, Colorado is perhaps my favourite mountain in Colorado. I just can't get enough of those famous back bowls. An unforgettable experience to be had, especially if you time your ski vacation or ski day with some big dumps of fresh powder. Vail Ski Resort is the biggest single-mountain resort in Colorado. The variety and amount of terrain is mind boggling and will keep you busy for plenty of time and many visits. In total, there is over 5,200 acres to ski. Although less than Aspen, the skiable terrain at Aspen is spread over 4 different peaks or mountains those being Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, ... Ski Colorado!
After a weekend in Glenwood Springs where we were stuck due to an I-70 closure, we made a move for the town of Steamboat Springs. More specifically Steamboat Ski Resort. At first glance, the hill doesn't look that big, but looks can be deceiving. Steamboat has a vertical rise of 3,668 feet, and has plenty of skiable terrain to explore. On our second day at Snowmass we were lucky to get some fresh snow. Not a huge dump but it covered the hard packed snow. So the idea was to get to it. We took the Elk Camp gondola, to the Elk Camp lift, and then hiked up about 5-10 minutes to the new Burnt Mountain Glades. This was the scene at the top of Elk Camp peak. And over yonder... Oh! Here we are ... Ski Colorado!
