Here's the spotlight on the first day of skiing in 2014, more specifically the hike up to Highland Peak, at Aspen Highlands Mountain. You see, I like to push things to the limit. And so, on the first day of skiing why not go up as far as the lift will take you and then climb up an additional 717 vertical feet, and see where you stand? Yeah, let's do ... Ski Colorado!
During our time in Aspen Snowmass, we stayed at the Aspen Meadows Resort. It was a great choice for so many reasons. In general, I like to pick a spot on the periphery of the action. Not too close, but not far at all being in walking distance from things to do and see. This is exactly what Aspen Meadows is all about. The resort is located about a 20 minute walk from ... I've skied at Snowmass Ski Resort before, however that was 30 years ago - my how time flies! I was very excited to get on the slopes once again and refresh my memories of a fabulous mountain. Day 1 at Snowmass was rather overcast and snowy, so photos were not a huge focus. We spent most of the day zipping up and down the Sheer Bliss and Big Burn chairs. So here we start ... Ski Colorado!
What an amazing first day of skiing! We decided to start things off with a run at Aspen Highlands mountain. The Highland Bowl looked fun. First though some easier runs to start off the day, my first in 5 years now. Cruised some nice long blues around the Cloud Nine lift. At the top of the lift there is this fantastic spot in the picture below, to take in the view of ... Ski Colorado!
Finally, Colorado Ski Dreams becomes a reality. It took some preparation, but we are on the road now, and ready to explore! Here is a shot cruising along the I70, heading West up and into the mountains. It is always a pleasure to drive through mountains and deep canyons. We arrived at our home for the week, Aspen Meadows Resort. The location is just to the side ... Ski Colorado!
